Bright Spot: i-STEM
i-STEM Summer Institutes provide high quality, in-depth professional development to Idaho educators. In June 2022, the four-day institutes with workshops and general sessions were held in five locations throughout the state. (Click above image to download the pdf.)
Bright Spot: Externships
The Idaho STEM Action Center Educator Externship Program is a summer program that brings educators into the workplace of an Idaho employer for a 200-hour on-site learning experience. In addition to gaining valuable industry experience and awareness about in-demand careers, educators receive a $5,000 stipend and earn free professional development credit. . Bright Spot: INDEEDS
Each year Idaho STEM Action Center honors two outstanding Idaho educators who champion science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and connect students to industry leaders to mentor projects and provide invaluable career guidance. INDEEDS awards are given out at the Idaho Technology Council’s Hall of Fame Gala. Jessica LaPresta, math teacher at North Idaho STEM Charter Academy in Rathdrum, was the Industry’s Excellent Educators Dedicated to STEM (INDEEDS) Award winner in the 7-12th grade category. Bright Spot: Idaho State University and Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25
It is never too early to help students start thinking about career paths in STEM. PCSD25’s Lewis & Clark Elementary School hosted a career fair on March 11, 2022, for 100 5th grade students with great support from local businesses. (Click above image to download the pdf.)

It’s in these subjects that students learn the skills of critical thinking, problem-solving and collaboration – skills that translate to success in many fields. The STEM Action Center is here to support this development and provide Idaho with the talent pipeline it needs for its economy to thrive.
