I had the opportunity to work with Idaho Regional Optical Network: IRON and ETS for my externship. I began by partnering with ETS and helped the with the grant process across multiple counties in Southern Idaho. These grants will allow for households and businesses in rural Idaho to have high-speed, fiber internet. I participated in meetings where I met with many of the commissioners of the counties involved. I then worked with the marketing department with ETS to help spread the word about fiber internet in Southern Idaho. I worked remotely with these companies as I live in one of these rural counties and not near the offices. However, this meant that I had knowledge of the communities they are targeting. I am happy I got to learn about how IRON and ETS want to spread knowledge to the community and that I had the opportunity to participate in the externship program.
