Marissa Honley at Idaho National Laboratory
My externship at Idaho National Laboratory was an incredible experience that strengthened my passion for STEM education. I had the opportunity to work with an amazing staff while teaching students from first through eighth grade about nuclear science through engaging activities. One of the highlights was helping students create projects to present to their parents and taking them to EBR-I, the world’s first electricity producing nuclear power plant. Watching students make real world connections and seeing their excitement as they learned was the most rewarding part of the experience. This externship reinforced my belief that more hands on STEM opportunities are needed in our schools. I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire young learners and to grow as an educator through such a meaningful experience.
