I spent my summer externing with Idaho’s Ag In The Classroom! I was kept very busy aligning K-12 agriculture lesson plans to Idaho state content standards. Currently, on the AITC (Ag In The Classroom) website the many wonderful available lesson plans are aligned and matched to national learning objectives. I went through the matrices of lessons and created crosswalks from the national objectives to Idaho state standards. I did this with the help of Utah State University’s National Center for Agricultural Literacy. The agriculture based lesson plans on the website are a wonderful resource for teachers and provide complete plans with useful materials, videos, and downloads. The lessons are aligned for K-12 science, social studies, health, and CTE (Career Tech Ed). I found the lessons to be relevant and engaging for all grade levels. I have become an even bigger proponent of teaching the relevancy of America and Idaho’s agricultural history and significance. I want to share with all of the other educators that I know and meet of the amazing lesson plans available to them! These amazing resources, that center around agriculture, require students to look at a topic or subject from a different perspective. I plan to utilize several lessons in my science classroom this year. Everyone should take a look at what is available on the AITC website! The only bummer was AITC had to cancel their awesome summer field conference due to the air quality concerns. But, I will be there next year!
