Jaycie Nielsen Externship at Idaho National Laboratory
I have had the opportunity to work at the INL with the STEM scholar summer camp. I began this program as part of the cyber security program but where I started a week early, I was able to switch to the STEM scholar summer camp. I have been placed in the position of “STEM Scholars Camp Assistant” being second in command to Sunshine Shepherd. My duties include assisting teachers create, plan, and prepare lessons for their activities. This has given me the opportunity to watch how other teachers create different hands-on lessons and adapt them to each skill level of children. I have the opportunity to sit in on some of the activities and observe how each teacher uses their own form of classroom management. Where I am a Behavior Specialist, going to be a teacher, this was beneficial to me to see what management skills would work best for me and my classroom. I was also able to see what kind of lessons I could adapt for my kiddos in my SpEd classroom.
