I was given the opportunity to teach about nuclear energy to kids from all ages that are included in an elementary, middle, and high school levels. I was given a curriculum to follow and a week of training before I started teaching. I was able to observe others teach. I became familiar with the curriculum and was able to learn more about the content myself. It gave me an opportunity to study something that I haven’t learned about in a while. As the ages changed, opportunities to adjust and differentiate lessons to be more age appropriate were given. Students were able to watch educational materials while also having plenty of STEM activities to do that reinforced the content they were learning. Students were able to go off campus to visit EBR-1. They were also given the chance to prepare a presentation to showcase the knowledge they acquired during the week!
This was a wonderful opportunity as I learned about different things that they INL offers for both kiddos and adults. I learned many different activities and places to find more resources that I can use in my own classroom. I’m looking forward to implementing more STEM activities in my classroom.
