My biggest project during my externship with Micron was to create educational resources for their free online educator hub. This built upon the work I had completed during my previous externship last summer, making it quite easy to get right back to work. Ultimately, the intended outcome of this project was to make semiconductor-related STEM lessons fun, engaging, and accessible for younger audiences. My experience as an educator helped shape many of the instructional decisions made in these resources, and I was granted a surprising amount of creative freedom throughout the process. The resources I developed have already been published to their educator hub, and have been seen and used by thousands of students across the world, making this project especially rewarding. A lot of my time was also spent helping facilitate STEM camps for middle school students, and helping teach programs for other teachers across the state. As an English teacher, I occasionally felt out of my depth, but I have come away from this program with a much better understanding of one of the fastest-growing industries not just in Idaho, but the entire world. I now feel much better equipped to connect students with meaningful STEM opportunities and career pathways, even though my own background is outside the sciences.
