My primary goal was building out a first-person view (FPV) drone racing program and finding the background information on making it happen. Through this I discovered a lot about the world of drones, not just FPV. My proudest achievement is getting my Part 107 Remote Pilot License, passing the test with a 95%! Along the way I also built out programming on getting students under 16, the age you can get a Remote Pilot License, another FAA certicifcate called a TRUST Certificate (The Recreational UAS Safety Test). Along the way it also helps get students ready for the Part 107 test. Having a Part 107 makes someone eligible to fly a drone for profit or for other purposes besides recreational purposes.
In exploring the Part 107 I spent time looking into industries in my area and in Idaho that could use drone pilots. Timber, surveying, land management, real estate, and many others already utilize drone technologies and often don’t have local pilots available. One that came up on my local social media that both surprised me and made me think it makes sense was power line inspections.
