Brianna Stahly-Hale at Foothills Learning Center
Describe the project you were tasked with. What were the goals and intended outcomes?
During my placement at the FLC, I worked with instructors in an outdoor learning (camp like) environment, supporting children ages 3½ to 10. I helped facilitate outdoor lessons and activities that encouraged curiosity, exploration, and hands-on learning. The goal was to support student growth through meaningful, place-based learning experiences in nature.
What did you accomplish during your work at the Host Site?
I collaborated with instructors to lead outdoor activities, support students, and adapt lessons for different age groups. I strengthened my communication and teamwork skills while helping create a positive learning environment where students could explore, solve problems, and build confidence.
How did this impact your career knowledge and teaching style?
This experience taught me the value of place-based learning and showed me how effective outdoor education can be for student engagement and growth. Working with children of different ages helped me become more flexible and student-centered in my teaching, and I plan to incorporate more hands-on, inquiry-based learning into my classroom in the future.
