Oracle Academy: Alice Training | September 24, 2016

About This Event:

Professional Development Workshop

The Idaho STEM Action Center and Oracle Academy partnered to offer a FREE Alice workshop to public middle school and high school teachers who are interested in introducing basic computer science concepts to their students. This workshop was designed for faculty with little or no programming experience and teaches basic Java programming concepts through developing 3-D Animations in Alice 3.1. Educators created animated stories and games using objects and characters from a rich gallery of 3-D models. Educators also received the workshop curriculum and support to use in their classroom.

Event Outcomes and Data:

20 participants from Boise, Caldwell, Hailey, Horseshoe Bend, Jerome, Kuna, Nampa, New Plymouth, Marsing, McCall, Middleton, St. Anthony and Twin Falls attended the one day PD workshop. We had two educators interested in continuing on to take the Java Fundamentals course, the first of two courses that will aid educators in preparing their students for a Java certification or for the AP computer Science A exam. We also had so much interest in the Alice class, we are offering it in Eastern Idaho in February.
