Idaho Makers for Equity

Idaho Makers for Equity, a state-wide initiative highlighting accessibility and inclusion in education, has pivoted to respond to Idaho’s urgent public health need due to the COVID-19 crisis. Announcing the #IdahoMakersUnite project!
Healthcare workers need Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to stay safe and ready to assist others. Hospital workers, first responders, nursing and retirement home staff, doctor’s office personnel, pharmacists, and more rely on these items to keep them healthy! Unfortunately, many of these critical items are in short supply.
You can help! Be part of an army of Idaho Makers providing solutions to keep those on the front lines of care safe and healthy!
Is your facility in need of Personal Protection Equipment? Please complete the short form below so we can connect you with makers who can fulfill your request!
Ready, Set, Make
- The first and most important thing you need to do is to contact your local healthcare leaders (assisted living facilities, hospitals, doctor’s offices, county first-responders) and ask them what their specific needs are!
- Check out the resources below to determine which option best fits your communities’ needs and what materials are required to begin.
- Start making! Assemble a team or go it alone. Send us a picture of your successes! Remember – you can APPLY for funding from the Idaho STEM Action Center to support your making! (Instructions for creating an account and logging into our Grant Portal is on the right side of page. Once logged in, apply through the Idaho Makers Unite-COVID-19 grant opportunity.)

Do you know how to SEW or have a 3D Printer? Or know someone that does? Make Homemade Face Masks or Face Shields to help fight the spread of COVID-19.
Here are some designs being made across the country and world to help fill the need! Each has different properties, uses, and effectiveness, so remember to talk to your local leaders to ensure you are providing the right solution to their challenge.
Things to Remember:
- Review Health and Safety Guidelines for important information.
- Provide documentation with each item donated, including information on materials used and directions for care.
Ways of Working
- Follow the golden rule: wash your hands often & don't touch your face!
- Wear one of your own masks while you sew, and gloves if you can.
- If you feel sick, stop work! Take care of yourself, and keep any made masks with you at home.
